Monsters, Mayhem and Musick
The Governor’s Musick, Colonial Williamsburg’s resident baroque ensemble, presents a concert of the darker side of baroque music. Spooky thematic material often gives composers dramatic license to break away from traditional conventions of harmony and musical form. Instrumental pieces might evoke images of darkness and death, while theatrical works allow supernatural beings to take a concrete form. Witches, furies, and monsters abound in even the earliest operas. Not appropriate for children 6 and under.
