The Jones Cup holds a special place in the world of golf as a prestigious amateur tournament that showcases the skills and talents of young golfers from around the globe. One particular venue that has become synonymous with this revered event is the Golden Horseshoe Golf Club in Williamsburg, Virginia. With its picturesque setting and challenging course, the club has played host to the Jones Cup for many years. In this blog post, we will delve into the rich history of the Jones Cup at Golden Horseshoe Golf Club, highlighting the significance of the tournament and the club’s contribution to the sport.

Jones Cup Trophy

The Jones Cup was first established 31 years ago in 1992. It started as a Father-Son tournament and has evolved to include all types of family members. The Jones Cup Trophy was created right here at the Colonial Williamsburg Silversmith shop by master craftsman Mark Frankel (who also worked on the Ryder Cup Replicas, PGA Championship Trophy, and the Canadian Open Trophy).  The trophy depicts images of the signature holes on each course as a tribute to the father-son designers.

The Golden Horseshoe is a fitting location for a family golf event as it is home to an amazing father-son combo of golf courses.  The Gold Course was designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr., and the Green Course was designed by his son, Rees Jones. The idea behind the tournament was to create a competitive event that would attract top amateur golfers from different countries, providing them with an opportunity to test their skills and gain valuable experience.
